The trail was poorly maintained, and there was no water in the falls. Nevertheless, I have decided to keep the description of the difficult version of the hike on this site for historical interest and for reference if it ever again becomes accessible. Fish Canyon’s history is one besmirched by a number of incidents which have rendered the stunning 80-foot falls in its depths inaccessible for much of the last hundred years. Prior to 2014, the falls were very difficult to reach due to the private Vulcan Materials quarry in the mouth of Fish Canyon, which required a long and exposed bypass hike over the neighboring ridge.
